The incredible progress made in the field of facial aesthetics takes the mental exercise of perceiving ourselves and our bodies in a more positive light further ahead. As we get older, our cells age and our bodies undergo a series of changes, most apparent at the epidermis layer (the top layer of our skin), impacting the texture, hydration and the composition of our skin. With aging, the skin becomes dull in color, due to less vascularization. Lower amounts of collagen lead to loss of elasticity and firmness, causing sagging and inferior movement, etched up in wrinkles.

The Vampire Facial addresses a multitude of skin issues, not just those related to aging, but also melasma, sun damage and can help with scar reduction as well. It is a regenerative procedure that involves withdrawing a patient’s own blood, processing it and then re-injecting it into host tissues, to help promote the healthy skin cell activity, to reduce wrinkles and create a more youthful look. Collagen and elastin are given a boost, and antioxidant and hydrating properties can also be observed.

What does the procedure involve?

The Vampire Therapy restores the structure and functions of the skin. The method consists in taking venous blood from the patient and processing it with the help of a centrifuge. Our blood is made up of red blood cells (erythrocytes) and serum, which contain our white blood cells and platelets. The red cells (erythrocytes) are separated from the plasma. The autologous P.R.P. (platelet rich plasma) is derived from the serum portion of the blood, being rich in growth factors. When applied to the skin, growth factors activate the stem cells already found in the skin, by eliciting a reaction from them, similar to the one present in the case of an injury and stimulating them to generate new tissue.

The pain is minimal, the procedure being carried out after numbing the targeted area. A very small needle is being used. The doctor will inject the patient’s own growth factors back into their face in a particular way. The number of sessions required depends on each individual case and is to be established during the pre-therapy meeting.

What is P.R.P/P.R.F. (Platelet rich plasma/fibrin)?

Platelet rich fibrin (or plasma) increases the regeneration of a variety of defective tissues, by increasing blood flow. P.R.F. is totally autologous, because it uses patient blood, without any anti-coagulants, that are known inhibitors of tissue regeneration, making the procedures safer, without causing a foreign body reaction or a viral/bacterial infection.

Because it uses naturally derived blood concentrates, P.R.F. promotes tissue regeneration, speeds up wound healing and enhances collagen synthesis. P.R.F. may also be used topically as part of a regular facial or along with micro-needling, to enhance penetration into the skin.

What results can one expect?

It may be called a ‘facial’, but the end results are far more impressive than those of a regular facial. An improvement in skin complexion and texture are visible immediately after treatment. In addition to increased collagen and elastin production, the skin will look tighter and brighter and wrinkles, scars and photoaging signs will be diminished. The maximum effect of this treatment is obtained in 2-3 months and maintains for 1-2 years.
